Usage Rights

Ownership of the Artwork

Purchasing a gothic tattoo design gives you the usage rights described by the license associated with the product.

Unless specifically transferred in writing, purchasing artwork does not automatically transfer copyright or unrestricted ownership of the original digital design.

Personal-Use License

Where a tattoo design is supplied with a personal-use license, the customer may generally:

• Download and store the purchased artwork.
• Show the artwork to their professional tattoo artist.
• Use the artwork as the basis for their own personal tattoo.
• Allow reasonable technical adjustments for tattoo placement.

Studio-Use License

Certain products may include additional permissions for professional tattoo artists or tattoo studios.

A studio-use license may allow the licensed design to be used in a professional tattooing context according to the conditions provided with the specific product.

Tattoo Artist Adjustments

A professional tattoo artist may need to adjust a design so that it works correctly on the customer's anatomy and intended placement.

Reasonable tattoo-related adjustments can include:

• Changing overall size.
• Adjusting line weight.
• Changing orientation.
• Adapting proportions to the body area.
• Simplifying small details where necessary for tattoo execution.

What You May Not Do

Unless a separate written license expressly allows it, purchased artwork may not be:

• Resold as a digital design.
• Redistributed as a downloadable file.
• Uploaded to stock-art or design marketplaces.
• Shared through file-sharing websites.
• Sold as part of another digital tattoo bundle.
• Sublicensed to another person or business.
• Presented as artwork originally created by you.

Social Media & Portfolio Display

A customer may photograph and share their completed physical tattoo in the ordinary way.

However, posting a completed tattoo does not give permission to distribute the original downloadable artwork as a reusable digital file.

Custom Tattoo Designs

Custom artwork is created using the information supplied by the customer, such as preferred symbolism, visual direction, size and placement.

Exact usage and ownership rights for custom artwork depend on the terms of the custom service purchased.

Exclusive Custom Designs

Where a custom design is explicitly sold as an exclusive custom design, the completed design is intended for the customer who commissioned it.

Gothic Tattoo Designs will not intentionally place that exact final design into the standard ready-made design archive for resale.

Reference Artwork

Customers may send references to communicate mood, symbolism, placement or general creative direction.

Reference artwork belonging to another creator does not give Gothic Tattoo Designs or the customer permission to reproduce another artist's protected work.

Commercial Products & Merchandise

A standard tattoo design license does not automatically permit using the artwork on products for resale, including clothing, posters, merchandise, downloadable products or other commercial goods.

Contact us before using artwork for a purpose that is not clearly permitted by the license you purchased.

Copyright & Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, original artwork, illustrations, website graphics and tattoo designs remain protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

The customer receives usage rights rather than unrestricted ownership unless an explicit written agreement states otherwise.
